Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is your Photography "Style"?
I describe my style as: Bold, Rich & Vibrant. It is very important to do your research when hiring a photographer, our styles change, and they don't always reflect the style our clients are after. I'm a mixture of Moody and Colourful. I also do not mute my yellows, as most moody photogs do. Always check a photographer's recent work before deciding to hire them, or flat out ask what their style is. Mine will probably change along the way, but for now: Bold, RICH & Vibrant is what you can expect.

  • What do I get what I hire Ashley?
When you hire me to capture your memories your Session fee covers wardrobe consultations (client closet access + personal wardrobe advice), location detailing, shoot time, travel up to 50km, and a pre-session information package that will put you at ease knowing that you are fully prepared.  Ashley is a professional, licensed & insured photographer. After your session, we will do a one-on-one ordering session. You then choose the Collection or a la carte products you would like your memories to be printed on. I require a contract be signed by an adult in each household participating in the sessions.

  • How does the Payment work?
All sessions require full payment of session fee in order to confirm booking.
Pre-payment of a Collection or a la carte products will give you unique bonuses of products that are not on the product lists.
Payments can be made by cash, cheque, or EMT to info@ashleybrooksphotography.ca
Payment plans are available, and can be discussed on a one-on-one basis.

  • What should we wear for our photo session?
When booking a session with me, I will always ask if you have any  wardrobe questions. I have a client closet that may have pieces that fit you and your family members. I also include Style Guides for certain sessions (ex: extended family, Fall, Christmas, and maternity).

  • You mentioned a client closet, what is that?
Over the years I have put a lot of thought into my photography business and how I want my images to look. Which means I have purchased a significant amount of attire. If you are unsure of what to wear, or what to have your child(ren) wear during a session, just message me and we can discuss the sizes I have that may work for you. I obviously don't have everything in every size, but it is always worth asking during our consultation, or anytime before your session.

  • Should we do our photos Inside or Outside?
Whenever given the choice, always choose outside. Better, more natural light and an amazing outdoor backdrop can make all the difference in a photograph. That being said, I can make anything work.

  • Do you take photographs of newborn babies?
Posing newborns is not my BEST work. I'm secure enough to know what I am good at, and what I am not. I will take lifestyle (natural, and minimal posing) images inside your home of your family and the newborn baby, however the images I produce from newborn shoots are nowhere near the quality some other photographers in our area have mastered. I am always willing to refer you to someone more skilled in that area if the posed newborn session is what you are after.

  • How long will it take to get my photos back?
My turn-around time is roughly one week for the ordering session for prints, and three weeks for delivery of your products, based on the time of year. Certain times of the year are more busy than others, so shipping might take a little more time, but not too much longer.

  • Do I get the digital images included with my Session Fee?
No, However! Every Print, Wall Art, and Album purchased comes with the corresponding WEB quality Images. See below for an example of what the difference between WEB & High Quality is.
The WEB quality do not come with a print release, they are for background images on phones/tablets, sharing with friends & family via email or on social media, and any other personal digital needs. .
I handle ALL print products to ensure that you receive the highest quality print product possible! There is an option to purchase the high quality digital images, but they are not inexpensive, and that is by design. I want to handle your prints and products to be SURE that the quality of images I release to you matches the quality of print product you hang on your wall or gift to yourself, family and friends.

  • Is being a photographer your full time job?
Yes. Aside from having two young children, my full attention goes into my passion and career as a Professional Photographer.

  • Can you explain what goes behind the pricing?
The pricing you see is a reflection of several different things:
Five Years of Post-Secondary Education (College diploma for Photography & additional Courses)
16 years in business, with many referrals
    Skill
    Professional Equipment
    A Licensed & Insured business
Offering Luxury Heirloom Products you can't find or order yourself
    Charging a livable wage
Ashley is not an amateur or discount photographer.

This ensures the images you post are the best quality possible. WEB quality will not print nicely, the files are not made to be printed.

Do not attempt to print WEB quality images. They will turn out looking terrible and will be a waste of your money.
